Practicing Queer Romani Memory – a poetic inquiry / Fri 20.9.2024, 9-10 pm

Can a culture boast of unity while it leaves its queer and trans* bodies stranded at the margins? Our love, too, is lovet; our bodies and desires are also entwined with the threads of our heritage. The tales of Roma queer kin are not absent; they are whispered, coded, and sung in hushed choruses that tremble in the shadows. How to recover the many stories that have slipped through the cracks of history?
Opening up spaces for mourning and encounter, the closing performance of the WIENWOCHE project Fields of Resistance- Romani Archives of Tomorrow's Remembrance by the DePART collective activates buried memories. Staging poetics of Romani remembrance CORE by Cat Jugravu celebrates the tales of queer and trans* Romani kin.
