Grow Up! An evening of short coming-of-age films/ Arabic/ Slovak/ Czech/ EN subtitles/ 3.4., 7pm

Coming-of-age is not just a film genre but also one of the most decisive and memorable phases of life. Excitement takes turns with frustration almost daily, when one begins to question who they are, where they belong, and what they stand for—all while simultaneously changing, adapting, and rebelling. Resistance and conformity take on different forms for different reasons, as seen in the short films by Leila Basma (Sea Salt), Anna Wowra (Stuck Together), Juraj Janiš (Gritty Eyes), and Gabriela Gažová (M), capturing the joy and Angst of adolescence in Lebanon, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

These films offer a refreshing perspective on the mainstream version of the genre and its themes, moving beyond the familiar Western narratives to highlight the specific experiences and challenges of growing up in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Recommended age: 16+

The screening will be followed by a video interview with Lebanese director Leila Basma.

Cinemarkt is an event of Brunnenpassage in cooperation with Volxkino.
